German food group Dr Oetker is planning to build its fourth – and biggest – manufacturing site in India.

Oilver Mirza, the MD of Dr Oetker’s business in India, told just-food that the company will build the new facility in Rajasthan by December 2012.

“The new plot for manufacturing is six times more than our existing three plants put together,” Oliver Mirza told just-food today (20 December).

Mirza is managing director of Dr Oetker India and Fun Foods, the Delhi-based packaged food brand the German firm acquired in 2008 for US$22m.

The company is projecting revenue from its Indian operations of INR700m (US$15.4m) by April 2011. “We are planning year-on-year growth of minimum 25-30%,” Mirza said.

Last week, the company relaunched its 50 Fun Foods products, such as mayonnaise, sandwich spreads and cake mixes, under the Dr Oetker Fun Foods brand name.

The move, Mirza said, would raise the line’s international branding appeal, drawing on Dr Oetker’s reputation for quality. “We wanted to strengthen the ‘value for money’ equation by adding the value proposition of the Dr Oetker brand name,” he said.
