Biscuit, chocolate and confectionery maker Dukes has reportedly said it will increase its focus on confectionery in a bid to increase its growth rate.

“Over the next three years, we are looking at confectionery becoming 60% of our business. The chocolates and confectionery division will be the driving force for organisational growth,” said Vikas Agarwal, Dukes managing director, according to the Business Standard.

The company started its chocolate and confectionery division in 2004 with the Sweethearts brand. It believes the category will grow at 20-25% rate over the next few years.

The unit, with a capacity of 2,000 tonnes a month, will also be used by the company to enter the premium products segment.

“So far, we have been a value for money brand, but we will be introducing premium products in our portfolio in a few months’ time,” said Ashok Sopori, business development manager, Dukes.
