German retailer Metro Group has today (10 February) confirmed that it plans to open some 50 cash and carry stores in India over the next four years.

A company spokesperson told just-food that it will work to open the 50 stores by 2015, building on its current footprint of six stores.

The country looks set to become an increasingly important one for the operator as it also announced plans to move its accounting functions to shared-service centres in India, Poland and Germany.
