The company’s Frito-Lay division is looking to buy 30,000 tonnes of potatoes from farmers in the state, up from the current level of 12,000 tonnes. The business buys in 57,000 tonnes of potatoes across India.


India’s snack food market is worth over US$600m with Frito-Lay holding a 55% share of the market.


Local firm ITC Foods entered the category last year and accounts for 16% of sales.
