Reliance Retail has unveiled plans to expand its presence in the Indian grocery sector over the next five years.
The retailer outlined its plans at a closed “Let’s Talk Growth” meeting with around 700 key employees of the chain’s Mumbai and Pune operations today (20 May).
A spokesperson for the group confirmed that the expansion drive will be based on four “strategic pillars”.
These are: strengthening its multi-format approach, focusing on hypermarkets, improving its offering of fresh food and developing back-end infrastructure and distribution capabilities.
Reliance, the retail unit of conglomerate Reliance Industries, added that it would add 900 new stores over the next five years to its existing 1,000 outlets.
The company declined to comment on the intended level of investment or provide further details on how its “strategic pillars” would be put into force.
