Spencer’s Retail, the retail arm of Indian conglomerate RPG Group, intends to invest in more store openings throughout India.

A spokesperson for the retailer told just-food that the company is shifting its emphasis from smaller to larger formats in a bid to increase volumes.

“We are increasing the pace of expansion in our hypermarket business,” the spokesperson said.

The company plans to open around 50 Spencer’s Hyper hypermarkets in the remainder of its fiscal year.

According to a report in the Business Standard, the company has also scaled back plans to open its smaller-format Spencer’s stores, halving planned openings from 200 to 100.
