After much procrastination due to financial difficulties, the Indonesian government has confirmed that the country will be helping to raise the price of coffee by participating in a global retention scheme due to start in October.

President Abdurrachman Wahid recently informed the Association of Coffee Producing Countries of his country’s participation, and the Industry and Trade minister Luhut B. Panjaitan has said that the state bank was expected to provide the US$3.7m needed to finance the coffee stockpiling.
