
US snack maker Inventure Foods has launched a range of crisps sold under its Boulder Canyon brand cooked in coconut oil.
Inventure said the products built on its moves to launch more "better-for-you" snacks.

By GlobalDataCoconut oil includes monounsaturated fats, which Inventure are "considered healthier than traditional cooking oils that contain saturated fats".
Steve Sklar, Inventure senior vice president and general manager for the company's Boulder Canyon Authentic Foods arm, said: "We've introduced a number of chips cooked in premium oils in the past year, including olive and avocado oils, so we felt coconut oil was really the next frontier."
The sea salt-flavoured snacks have a suggested retail price of US$3.49-$3.99 per 5.25-ounce package. A spokesperson said the snacks had "tested well in regional markets" and will be rolled out nationally next month in over 2,200 stores.
"We've seen exponential growth of coconut SKUs, particularly in beverage categories, over the past few years and coconut snacks are starting to emerge as evidenced at last month's Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago," the spokesperson said. "However, its not simply about coconut oil; rather, its the appeal of simple ingredients in combination with these unique – for chips – oils that is driving consumer interest."
