UK poultry firm Derby Poultry has reportedly begun discussions with the liquidator for Ireland’s Cappoquin Chickens about a possible rescue bid.
Derby Poultry declined to confirm whether it was mulling a rescue proposal.
However, sources close to the company told just-food that executives from the group were travelling in Ireland this week, where it is believed they met with Aidan O’Connell of Deloitte Touche, who is acting as administrator for the company.
Cappoquin, which processes some 220,000 birds each week and employs around 200 people, went into administration last week after revealing losses of EUR7m (US$9.98m).
