Staff at a Tesco store in Cork, Ireland have agreed to suspend industrial strike action pending talks with the Labour Relations Committee (LRC) later today (30 April).

Workers were due to begin strike action yesterday over management plans to force pay cuts and reduce workers’ entitlements.

The workers trade union Mandate was last night invited to attend a meeting with the Commission at 15:00 pm today in Dublin in a bid to resolve the issues.

A spokesperson for Mandate told just-food: “It [suspension] was on the basis that the company and the union go into the LRC with no preconditions. So basically the talks are a fresh start.

“Mandate is hoping that all the agreements in place with Tesco at the moment will be continued.”

It is understood the meeting could continue for three days.

Tesco was not available for immediate comment as just-food went to press.
