Dairy company Yoplait Ireland has launched a drinking yoghurt containing TruCal, a 100% natural milk mineral complex from Glanbia Nutritionals.

The drink, available in Ireland, is part of a calcium-enriched range of Yoplait’s popular Petits Filous brand, Glanbia Nutritionals said in a statement. Developed specifically for growing children, the new range assists the formation of healthy bones and teeth, and is the first of its type to offer real milk calcium, rather than calcium from alternative sources.
“We considered various options for adding calcium to the Petits Filous products before opting for TruCal,” said Margaret Barron, brand manager for Petits Filous in Ireland. “We chose this ingredient because it fitted the brief, offering natural dairy calcium, and it performed well in lab tests. We then worked with Glanbia Nutritionals to create a great tasting, quality end product with an excellent viscosity. Plus, we managed to do all this without impacting on the natural goodness of the Petits Filous range.
TruCal is a free-flowing white powder with a clean sensory profile, and contains 24 per cent calcium and 13% phosphorous – a ratio highly conducive to bone growth and increased bone density. Derived from dairy, a highly bio-available source of calcium, TruCal can be used to add value to dairy products, beverages, nutritional bars and baked goods,” Glanbia Nutritionals said.
