Pipin Pear, the Ireland-based chilled baby-food firm, is to sell a range of organic products in Belgium and Germany.

The Co. Waterford-based company, known until a recent re-brand as Pip and Pear, was launched in 2015 by Irene Queally who perceived a gap in her home market for chilled, better-for-you, premium baby food.

Its products, which contain no added salt, sugar or additives, include Banana Blue, Creamy Chicken, Peas & Pasta and Superstar Pasta. They are aimed at children aged between seven months and three years and are sold in its home market at Tesco and Dunnes Stores.

Now it has set its sights further afield and has launched its first venture outside Ireland, agreeing deals with retailers in Belgium and Germany.

It revealed to just-food it has won listings with Colruyt in Belgium but said that, due to contract clauses, it cannot share who its other stockists are until launch in January.

The independently-owned company recently introduced six new dishes to its range in the shape of Spaghetti Bolognese, Mighty Mango & Chicken, Cottage Pie, Hearty Beef Stew, Creamy Chicken, Peas & Pasta and Vegetarian Superstar Pasta.

Asked whether it has plans to expand into other markets, Pipin Pear said: “The UK is a natural fit for us with a very similar market to us here in Ireland.”
