Israeli food group G. Willi-Food has kicked off 2008 with a deal to buy a controlling stake in local dips and spreads business Shamir Salads.
Willi-Food is looking to buy a 51% stake in the company in order to tap into demand for Mediterranean foods in Israel.
“The popularity of Mediterranean style foods is growing not only in our home market but abroad as well,” said president and COO Zwi Williger.
“As part of Willi Food’s growth strategy, we intend to build a manufacturing plant in the US that will allow for distribution of Shamir’s product line all throughout North America.”
