Organisers of the 2001 Israeli International Food Fair, scheduled to be opened on October 30 at the Tel Aviv Fair Grounds, said that very few overseas buyers, if any, would attend the event, “in view of the sensitive security situation”.

Trade sources in Tel Aviv said the organisers estimated the arrival of about 500 overseas buyers to the fair, similar to the number of buyers that attended the last food fair: “But owing to the developments, the international food companies will manage any purchases through their Israeli agents or representatives.”

The Israel International Food Fair will comprise three sections encompassing food production and related services: IsraelFood – covering food, drinks and wine production and marketing; Hotex – food production and supply to the hotel sector; and Condi – covering the baking and confectionery sectors.

According to a report in Maariv, 300 companies representing 1,200 Israeli and international food companies will participate in the forthcoming international food fair.
