The Bronfman-Alon Group plans to purchase a supermarket chain in the USA, according to David Wiessman, chairman of supermarket chain Blue Square Israel and president of the Alon Group of Companies, which owns part of Blue Square.
Wiessman was quoted in Maariv as saying that “since there are no available options in Israel at present for acquiring a food chain, we plan to invest in the USA. It seems that the most appropriate option for us is to acquire a supermarket chain in the USA.”
Alon USA has the franchise to operate the Seven-Eleven convenience stores in southwest Texas and New Mexico. It also owns 170 convenience stores in 1,700 gas stations.
