The MD of Italian pasta group Barilla has left his post over strategic differences with the three brothers who own the group.

Massimo Potenza, who has held the role since 1999, will be replaced soon, according to a statement jointly released by Guido, Luca and Paolo Barilla.

“We thank Potenza for his contribution and professional achievements over the years and wish him every success for the future,” it said.

“In a moment so important for the markets, characterised by profound and rapid changes, and faced with the important challenges that lie ahead, we felt the need to ensure Barilla has cohesive leadership with a vision and strategic management to ensure continuity and development.”

In the meantime the brothers will lead of the company as per the delegations already granted to them by the board of directors and with the cooperation and support of the management committee, according to a statement.

Barilla has 43 production sites in Italy and abroad and exports to over 100 countries. Its brands include Mulino Bianco, Voiello and Pavesi.
