Italy reported two new cases of mad cow disease on Tuesday, discovered because of the widespread examinations carried out on 56,000 animals since the government introduced mandatory tests for the disease, which is believed to be the cause of the brain wasting human equivalent vCJD.


The first case of BSE was discovered in Italy on 13 January, and Tuesday’s cases bring the total number to nine, according to veterinary officials.
