Japanese supermarket operator Aeon is reported to have filed a criminal complaint with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department against Japan’s Prima Meat Packers alleging that Prima broke the law for ensuring the safety of foodstuffs.
Prima Meat Packers supplied Aeon with what it called “top-value asparagus wrapped with bacon” that contained a constituent of egg white, Dow Jones News reported, citing a report in Kyodo News.
Aeon, which has removed all of Prima’s products from its shelves, is reported to have made a contract with Prima Meat Packers that mandates that Prima not use the constituent in the product.
Aeon officials reportedly accused Prima Meat Packers of breaking the contract and falsely labelling the product.
