Toy maker Takara Co is set to prove that Godzilla, the giant irradiated Japanese lizard, is good enough to eat with a new range of meat products named after the cartoon fiend.

The Tokyo-based firm are marketing 100g cans of corned beef as Godzilla Meat, cans of 15 quail eggs as Godzilla Eggs and canned barbecued chicken as Radon Meat.
Godzilla has been a popular anti-hero since he began starring in films in the 1950s. Now, a Takara spokeswoman said: “People can eat Godzilla and become energetic and powerful […] it’s like Popeye and his can of spinach.”
The products are due for retail release in October, and the company said that there are no plans as yet to distribute the range outside Japan.
