Japanese supermarket operator Daiei has said its same-store sales for the full year to 29 February were flat compared to the previous year.

The company had forecast a 1% slide in full-year same-store sales. The company said sales improved in the second half after a 3% fall in first-half same-store sales. Second-half sales were helped by special promotions in October and November to celebrate wins by the company’s baseball team.

Daiei said February sales rose 3% compared to the year-ago period, mainly due to the extra trading day due to the leap year, but also helped by sales promotions and the renovation of some supermarkets, reported Dow Jones International News.
