The Fujiya Company, the company at the centre of a recent food safety scandal following its use of out-of-date ingredients, has selected its director Yasufumi Sakurai to replace Rintaro Fujii as president following his resignation last week, the confectioner revealed today (22 January).
The appointment is effective immediately.
Breaking from common Japanese custom, Fujii will not remain with the company either as chairman or in an advisory role. He will not even continue to serve on the company’s board, Fujiya said.
The company also revealed that it has organised a panel of eight outside experts to reform its management in an effort to win consumer confidence back and address structural Fujiya’s deficiencies.
