Japan is stepping up its functional chewing gum wars, with other brands trying muscle in on the market share of top selling wonder gum Fuwarinka, or ‘rose chewing gum’.

Produced by cosmetics company Kanebo, Fuwarinka promises to make you smell nice and rid you of body odour.

Joining the ranks of such best selling eccentrics are confectioner Lotte’s “Black Black Gum” that contains three times more caffeine than coffee, and their “IQ Supplement Gum” which contains intelligence boosting traces of the gaba supplement.

The launch of the IQ enhancing gum has received considerable media attention, and was even tested in a TV game show. Contestants were given these IQ supplemented gums, “proving” that they improved their abilities to answer questions.
