Japanese convenience operator Lawson posted a 3.67% drop in sales to JPY419.76bn (US$4.79bn) in its first quarter, ended 31 May.

Over the quarter the company added a net total of 31 outlets to its network.

The convenience sector in Japan has suffered recently due to reduced consumer confidence. While yesterday (1 July) Seven & I posted a 10.6% operating profit drop for the same period, it did manage to eke out 0.19% sales growth.
