Fastfood chain McDonald’s Japan has reported a 2% rise in November same-store sales, its first monthly sales increase since September 2001.

The company said same-store sales fell 8.8% in August, 8.1% in September, and were flat in October.

The company, which is 50% owned by US burger giant McDonald’s, said last month that lower sales and restructuring charges would result in a second successive year of losses, reported Reuters.

Last month, McDonald’s Japan said it would withdraw from its Pret a Manger sandwich chain joint venture in order to focus on its core McDonald’s restaurants.
