Japanese confectioner Morinaga has signed a licensing deal with Kellogg for the distribution of the Pringles brand in the country.

In a statement, Morinaga said it has secured the Japanese sales rights to Pringles from Kellogg’s local unit and will launch sales in January.

Sales of the Pringles brand in Japan had previously been handled by Meiji Holdings. However, contracts were changed after Kellogg acquired Pringles from Procter & Gamble in, according to the Nikkei news agency.

It is understood Morinaga plans to position the brand as one of its major snack food lines alongside its Ottoto snack crackers and Potelong potato snacks.
