Japanese ingredients producer Ajinomoto Co has posted a net profit of ¥31.4bn (US$245.2m) for the full year 2001/02, up from a group net loss of ¥11.5bn year on year.
Group sales rose 3.9% to ¥943.5bn, with the flat sales in Japan buoyed by rising revenue in Asia. Sales are expected to reach ¥990bn in the current year.
For the full year 2002/03, Ajinomoto expects consolidated net profit to reach ¥32bn.
Ajinomoto, which means “the root of flavour” in Japanese, produces a flagship range of monosodium glutamate (MSG) seasoning products.
