Sapporo Holdings has announced plans to integrate two of its Japanese subsidiaries in a bid to strengthen its position in the country’s soft drinks and food markets.
The firm has confirmed that it is to merge its Sapporo Beverage Co and Pokka Corp units. The new business will be renamed Pokka Sapporo Food & Beverage, the company said in a statement yesterday (29 November).
Sapporo Beverage Co produces soft drinks for the Japanese market. The unit recorded full-year net profits of JPY798m (US$10.2m) in 2010, while Pokka Corp is the firm’s food business, which includes confectionery and foodservice. The unit recorded JPY1.97bn in full-year net profits last year.
“In order to strengthen competitive edge and enhance corporate value under severe market competitions, Sapporo Holdings believes it is best to integrate food and beverage business lines and face challenges as a new company,” Sapporo said in a statement.
The integrated company is expected to be fully operational from January 2013.
