JAPAN: Seven-Eleven to open 1,000 stores next financial year
Japan’s largest convenience store chain Seven-Eleven is to open a record 1,000 stores in the financial year to 28 February 2004. The company will close around 300 outlets next year, most of which will be relocated to less competitive areas, Asia in Focus reported, quoting company sources.

Seven-Eleven currently operates over 9,400 stores nationwide and is expected to have 10,000 stores by this autumn. Of the new stores, around 100 will be in Aichi Prefecture, where the company began operating for the first time last year.
