Japanese retailer Seven & I is to expand its private-label offering following the success of its Seven Premium own-brand range.

The company said that it would introduce own-label products – mostly food items – based on current sales within particular categories and access to suppliers.

Seven & I is aiming for 20% of group-wide sales to come from Seven Premium by the end of fiscal 2009, the company revealed.

The Premium brand, which was launched in May 2007, generated sales of about JPY80bn (US$873m) in its first year. Sales are expected to total JPY180bn the fiscal year ending February, the company said.
