Starbucks Coffee Japan, the Japanese affiliate of US coffee shop giant Starbucks, has reported a sharp rise in quarterly profits, helped by cost cuts.

The company reported profit of ¥572m (US$5.18m) for the second quarter to 30 June, compared to ¥45m in the year-ago period, reported the Associated Press.

The strong profit growth was boosted by the opening of 17 new stores and the company’s efforts to lower procurement costs, the company said.
