Japanese convenience store operator FamilyMart has confirmed that it plans to open 200 convenience stores in the US by the end of the fiscal year to February 2007.
The first FamilyMart store to open in the US will be situated on the west coast and will open in 2004, a spokesman for the company said. The stores will offer Japanese-style food products such as sushi and boxed lunches, reported Dow Jones International News.
The first store is to be operated directly by FamilyMart, although the company plans to run most of the stores on a franchise basis.
FamilyMart is set to become the first Japanese convenience store operator to expand to the US.
