
Brazilian meat firm JBS has acquired local pork processor Adelle Food Industry for BRL235m (US$59.8m).
The deal was conducted via JBS’ Seara Alimentos unit and is subject to clearance by Brazilian regulators, according to a statement.
Located in the Brazilian municipality of Seberi in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the deal for Adelle Food Industry builds on JBS’ operations in prepared pork products such as ham, sausage and bacon.
“The plant, one of the most modern in Brazil, is located in a region recognised for its importance in the production of pigs,” said Johannite Karoleski, the president of Seara Alimentos.
As well as pork and associated prepared foods, Seara produces poultry products and owns brands such as Seara Gourmet, Doriana, Mass Light, Rezende, Lebon, Frangosul, Trust, Big Chicken, Excelsior and Delicata, The company is also a major exporter, with operations in China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the Netherlands, the UK, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa and North Africa.
Amid increased demand for “high-quality bacon products” from foodservice and retail customers, JBS expanded its bacon operations earlier in the year with an investment at it Plumrose business in the US.
