French chocolate maker Cémoi and US firm Just Born Quality Confections after ended their tie-up on sales and distribution in the American market.

The companies joined forces in 2016 in a bid to expand distribution of the group’s French chocolate products throughout the US.

Just Born told the deal came to an end amid strategic changes at both companies.

“Our arrangement with Cémoi was to represent them and help build the brand for them here in the US. We eventually parted ways based on changes in strategy at both companies. Cémoi never had a US plant until they purchased Pittsburgh based Chris Candies last year,” Just Born said. “We continue to focus and build our own chocolate business with our Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews brand and our Peeps Delights line.”

Cémoi snapped up Pittsburgh-based own-label confectioner Chris Candies in early 2017 for an undisclosed sum.

As well as its US plant, the French group has 11 factories in its domestic market and one in each of Germany, Poland, the UK and Cote d’Ivoire.
