Kerry Group has extended its Mattessons range in the UK with the launch of Savagers, a line aimed at adult consumers.
The company said Savagers would help take Mattessons "beyond Fridge Raiders and the teen market", targeting a potentially lucrative part of the population.
"We know that adult snacking is worth five times that of kids snacking [and] this new range will drive incremental sales in the category for retailers by broadening category appeal amongst adults aged 22 to 32 who currently under-index against the category. There is currently little choice on offer for this age group within meat snacking and therefore Mattessons is bringing something new to the category," Hayley Murgett, senior brand manager for Mattessons, said.
Mattessons Savagers are cured and smoked salami and chorizo sticks. Kerry said continental meats were "experiencing strong levels of popularity" in the UK. Citing MAT data from Nielsen to the week ending 15 August, Kerry said chorizo sales were rising 19.5% year-on-year.
The snacks are available as singles – with a recommended price of GBP0.79 – and in multipacks, which have a recommended price of GBP1.69.
