Premium soup maker Kettle Cuisine has acquired California-based Del Monaco Foods in a move the company claimed creates the “first coast-to-coast” fresh soup supplier in the US.

Del Monaco Foods was established in 1998 and is based in Morgan Hill, California. It produces outsourced, private-label, contract manufacturing soups, sauces and other “speciality” items.

Following the acquisition, Kettle Cuisine will operate two SQF Level 3 certified facilities in Lynn, Massachusetts and Morgan Hill, California. This national platform “enhances the company’s capabilities” to supply national retail and food service customers, the group suggested.

“We’re excited to merge Del Monaco Foods with Kettle Cuisine and offer a truly national fresh soup programme. Our commitment to shared values of service, food safety, quality and innovation align us for further growth and continued success in providing our customers with best in class products,” CEO Liam McClennon said.

Kettle Cuisine has been owned by private-equity group Kainos Capital since August 2015. Kainos focuses on food and consumer investments. The group’s investment portfolio includes Slim-Fast, Healthy Delights, Pinnacle Foods and Ghirardelli. The investment vehicle also owned the Earthbound Farm brand, which it sold to WhiteWave Foods in 2014.
