The EU Council of Ministers has agreed to lift tariff barriers on some agricultural products from Lithuania in preparation for its future accession to the European Union.
These reforms will come into effect this month and will also lead to Lithuania dropping tariff barriers against EU products.
Lithuania’s tariff drop is the latest in a string of cuts designed to ease eastern European countries into EU protocol.
A statement from the Council said: “These latest negotiations represent the progressive liberalisation of the exchange of agricultural products and places it in the context of the European integration process.”
