Supermarket chain Aeon Co Bhd (formerly Jaya Jusco Stores Bhd), with the support of the Department of Agriculture and Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), plans to promote Malaysian-made food products for export to Aeon stores in China, according to the Star newspaper.

General manager A. Rashid Adam said since Japan was a tough market to penetrate due to its stringent requirements, Aeon was looking towards promoting local food products in the lucrative food market in China.

In line with this, he said the company would be organising, with the support of the Department of Agriculture and Felda, “Malaysian Bagus 2005” at all Jusco Supermarkets nationwide, except for Bandar Utama.

The event was to promote and support local small and medium industries’ food products, he told a media briefing in Kuala Lumpur.

Rashid said Aeon was aiming 20% to 30% growth in sales during the promotion period between May 30 and June 12.
