French retail giant Carrefour has announced plans to open at least a further five stores in Malaysia.

The retailer, which currently owns 15 stores in Malaysia, confirmed today (9 December) that it plans to expand the number by another five next year in the Klang Valley and the south of the country.

“We confirm our intention to grow further in Malaysia in 2009, at least the same as in 2008, if not more,” a spokesperson told just-food. “We are hopeful to open at least five stores next year, if not more.”

It is understood the expansion will increase the retailer’s staff force by around 1,500.
