This represents a sharp improvement on the 57,113 tonnes exported in October of last year, and reflects an increase in activity by bulk carriers, reported the Mauritius Sugar Syndicate today [Friday].

When sugar is shipped in bags, the volume is not so significant, but this month the sugar was mostly shipped in bulk.

Nearly all of October’s export output (84,972 tonnes) went to the European Union within the framework of a protocol that is part of an agreement reached in June 2000 in Benin. A small amount (264 tonnes) went to the US, while the remaining 770 tonnes was sold on the world market.
