Scottish bakery group McGhee's has announced a GBP3m (US$4.6m) investment at its bakery in Port Dundas to boost capacity.
The baker supplies retailers and foodservice companies with bakery and confectionery products. The investment at its plant at the M8 Food Park will see a 33% capacity increase in production.
"Our significant investment in extending the bakery will help us consolidate and expand that offering to customers, in particular in the export market and frozen food sectors," said Gordon McGhee, managing director of McGhee’s Bakery.
"While we are and, we hope, always will be renowned for our morning goods business, being able to diversify our offering in an ever-competitive marketplace is crucial. That’s why successes over the last 12 months such as increasing partnerships with key, major retailers and helping niche customers – like hospitals – get the offering right for their own customers will help McGhee’s continue to grow and reinvest," he added.
The expansion is expected to be complete by Spring 2016.
