Brazilian meat giant BRF announced it is hiring more than 2,000 people to maintain production and supply during the coronavirus outbreak.

The Sao Paulo-based company said the new employees will replace those “included in [the] Covid-19 risk group” who have been instructed to stay at home.

The new hires will work either for the company itself or within the ranks of BRF’s third-party service providers.

BRF also said it is aiming to maintain all job positions in April and May, performing only the “normal changes under the regular course of its business”.

It said these actions are intended to minimise the impact from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The company has donated approximately BRL50m (US$9.5m) worth of food, medical supplies and support to research and social development funds to contribute to the efforts to combat the disease.
