Yakult, the Japanese firm behind the eponymous probiotic yoghurt drink, is reportedly looking to up production of another of its brands in Mexico.

The company plans to boost the daily production of its Sofuhl yoghurt drink at its plant on the edge of Mexico City from 140,000 to 185,000 units.


Reports published in Japan today (4 January) said Yakult also plans to up production at a site in Guadalajara this year.


Yakult has been present in Mexico for 27 years and exports products from its sites in the country to the US, where it made its first concerted push last year with a launch in California.


Officials at Yakult could not be reached for immediate comment.
