Mexico’s National Association of Supermarkets and Department Stores (ANTAD) has said same-store sales at its members’ retail outlets increased 3.4% in April compared to the same period of the previous year.

ANTAD, whose 102 members include Comerci, Soriana and Gigante but not Wal-Mart de Mexico, said total sales for April rose 9.3%, reported Reuters.

Mexican retail sales are expected to rise in 2004 compared to 2003 due to a recovery in the country’s economy and improved consumer confidence.
