Stabilised rice bran specialist NutraCea has announced that it has signed a distribution partnership with Mexican food ingredients distributor FX Morales y Associados.

NutraCea said the new link-up would allow it to expand its food ingredient sales in the Mexican market to FX Morales customers, which include large multinational food companies such as Grupo Gamesa, Grupo Bimbo, Grupo Maseca, Kellogg, Nestlé, Kraft, Unilever and Bristol Myers Squibb.
“This strategic relationship with FX Morales allows NutraCea to forego opening up a planned office in Mexico and instead immediately implement a purchase and warehouse arrangement utilising the FX Morales infrastructure and contract workers,” said Kody Newland, Nutracea’s senior vice president sales. “Their professional organisation has an impeccable reputation and long-standing relationships with many major US-based food corporations, which operate in the Mexican market. By partnering with FX Morales we are confident that these important customers will be serviced with both sales and technical support.”
Francisco Xavier Morales, general director of FX Morales y Associados, said: “We are very happy to be the distributor for NutraCea’s stabilised rice bran product line in Mexico, as our customers have come to rely on us to provide high quality value-added ingredients. We intend to leverage NutraCea’s existing relationships with large multinational food corporations that have a presence in Mexico.”
The Mexican move for NutraCea appears well timed. The Mexican Government recently imposed price controls on tortillas at a time when corn prices are experiencing unprecedented upward movement. This places a tremendous pressure on already narrow margins for the country’s main food staple, and could create added opportunity for stabilised rice bran as an economical alternative to corn and other grains.
