Anglo-Dutch consumer goods conglomerate Unilever yesterday [Wednesday] committed US$230m to its operations in Mexico this year.

The company said it would spend most of this amount developing and supporting its brands. In a news release, Unilever said Mexican president Vicente Fox had met with Unilever president Niall FitzGerald earlier this week, and pledged to support the Unilever subsidiary.


“Unilever will target in Mexico US$30m in direct investment and US$200m to boost its brands” this year, FitzGerald said in the statement. “We hope that our activity grows by double digits each year in the next five years,” he said. “Our aim is to establish a long-term commitment with Mexico.”
