MHP, the Ukrainian poultry group, reported an increase in both sales volumes and poultry prices during the second quarter of this year.

In a pre-close trading update issued this morning (18 July), MHP said second-quarter poultry volumes increased by 2% to 145,820 tonnes, compared to 142,591 tonnes in the prior year period. For the first half, sales volumes were “relatively stable” at 287,694 tonnes, versus 286,342 tonnes in the first six months of 2016, the group added.

Volumes were propelled by higher exports, with sales to “external customers” increasing 11% year-on-year. The company attributed the expansion to “high demand” in international markets.

“The main driver in total poultry sales growth was export…MHP continued to follow a strategy of both geographic diversification and in a product mix optimisation building-up the export volumes of chicken meat mainly in the MENA, the EU and African countries,” the company revealed.

Selling prices were also up in the period, MHP noted. Selling prices in the second quarter of this year were 20% higher than the prior year period, according to the poultry processor. Domestically, MHP said that price growth was driven by market trends, while internationally higher pricing was primarily supported by mix optimisation.

MHP is due to deliver its full financial results for the second quarter on 17 August.
