A group of Muslim businessmen intend to establish a Halal chicken-processing factory, a facility that follows Islamic law, to target the Middle Eastern market. The facility will be located in the Philippines’ Mindanao and will cost an estimated US$3.8m.

Larry Santos, chief investments specialist at the Bureau of Investments in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), told Asia Pulse that the group, led by president of the Muslim Business Forum (MBF)  Bai Matabay Diamad, hopes for production to begin as soon as ARMM approves its Halal Certification Board (HCB). “The HCB is now on its final reading in ARMM’s Regional Legislative Assembly,” he said.

If the facility is granted HCB, its processed chickens will be internationally recognised as abiding by Islamic doctrine and export to the Middle East will commence.
