Mondelez International has confirmed it is closing a confectionery plant in Spain as a result of its plans to sell a clutch of European factories and brands.
In a statement to just-food today (1 April) a spokesperson confirmed the Valladolid site closure will follow a “transition period” which will see volumes transferred to other Mondelez manufacturing sites across Europe.

The plant manufactures products sold under brands including Dulciora, Krema, Carambar, La Pie Qui Chante and The Natural Candy Company. The site is scheduled to close in May 2017.
The company confirmed 227 staff would be affected by the closure. Mondelez said it was working with the works council and colleague representatives to “find the best solutions for all our employees in line with legal requirements and market practices”.
The announcement comes as a result of takeover interest from French investment firm Eurazeo in five Mondelez plants in Europe, as well as a clutch of brands. The talks involve the sale of brands including Krema, Carambar and Terry’s.
