Mondelez International plans to cut the size of its Cadbury family blocks range in Australia in response to “manufacturing cost increases” the company “can no longer absorb”.

A spokesperson for the company told just-food the group was reducing the size of its entire Cadbury family block range from 220g and 210g to 200g. There will be no change to the price Cadbury’s recommended retail price.

The spokesperson stressed: “We had to make a choice – increase the price we recommend to our retailers or change the size a little. We wanted to maintain the taste and quality while keeping Cadbury family blocks affordable as we know how important it is to people to maintain their shopping budget.”

The company took the decision to be “up front” with people on social media and via its website, alerting consumers to the change before it was implemented at retail.
