Moy Park, the meat processor, is to end production at a factory in Wisbech in eastern England.

The company, owned by Brazil-based meat giant JBS, said the move at the site in Cambridgeshire would be carried out at the end of the month.

“Small scale production at Wisbech will be transferring to other company facilities at the end of January. The small number of employees affected will all be offered alternative jobs within the company,” Moy Park said. Some 19 staff work at the plant, which produces sliced cooked meats. In 2013, more than 300 employees had worked at the site.

At the time of writing, Moy Park had not returned a request for information on why it was closing the facility.

In November, Moy Park announced plans to invest GBP10m (US$14.3m) in a poultry plant in the English town of Ashbourne. In parallel, Moy Park said it would increase the capacity of a hatchery in the town.
